5 Tips on Planning a Picture-Perfect Winter Wedding

There are certain advantages to getting married during the winter. Because it’s considered the off season, venues and related wedding services are typically cheaper than other times of the year. A winter wedding can also offer you and your soon-to-be spouse with a captivating snow-covered landscape. And if all that wasn’t enough, you won’t have to endure the heat and humidity when saying “I do” during this time of year. To ensure that your winter wedding is picture perfect, though, you should follow these five tips when planning it.

1) Send Save-the-Dates Before Invitations

Engaged couples should always send save-the-dates to their guests before the actual wedding invitations. With winter being such a hectic and busy time, though, save-the-dates are particularly important if you’re planning to get married during this season. A good rule of thumb is to send everyone whom you want to invite to your wedding a save-the-date card about six to eight months before your wedding, followed by a formal invitation eight weeks before your wedding.

2) Include Winter Elements in the Décor

Embrace the winter season by decorating your ceremony and reception areas with items that reflect this time of year. String lights, for example, can be used to mimic the appearance of snowflakes or icicles. For indoor venues, you can even decorate tables with cotton so that it looks like fake snow. It’s the little things like this that will make your winter wedding memorable.

3) Use Outdoor Heating

Assuming some or all your winter wedding will be held outdoors, you should provide guests with outdoor heating. Granted, you may get lucky and experience mild weather on your wedding day. Rather than rolling the die, however, it’s recommended that you set up outdoor heating for your guests. Patio heaters – available in propone, natural gas or electric – are an excellent choice that can warm outdoor spaces to create a more comfortable environment for your wedding guests.

4) Layer Up

Of course, you’ll want to layer up when getting dressed for your winter wedding. This applies for both the bride and groom. If there’s a cold front expected to move in on your wedding day, wearing an extra layer of clothing underneath your dress – or suit if you’re the groom – can keep you warm and comfortable so that you aren’t left shivering.

5) Use Votives

Finally, include votives in your winter wedding décor to create a brighter, warmer mood. You don’t have to use full-sized candles. Rather, decorate each individual table at your reception area with at least one small votive candle. Along with the other tips listed here, this will help you plan a picture-perfect winter wedding.
